Solar Eclipse

21 Aug 2017 - 11:00

Destin, Florida

Join members of the NorthWest Florida Astronomy Association in viewing a partial solar eclipse on the 21st of August. Although the eclipse will be total along a path between Oregon and South Carolina, here at Henderson Beach State Park the Sun will only be 82 percent obscured. At no time will it be safe to look at the Sun without approved eye protection. We can help with that. We will have solar telescopes setup and, as long as our supply lasts, will hand out eclipse glasses so our guest observers will be able to safely follow along with the event.

The Moon’s silhouette will first touch the Sun at 12:05PM and will leave the Sun at 3:03PM. We will be setup from 11:00AM till 4:00PM.

If you can’t make the trip North to view the eclipse from the path of totality, please consider joining us for this significant astronomical event. If the weather is questionable, please call the park at (850) 837-7550 to make sure the event has not been cancelled.
